About The Position

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking energetic and versatile applicants for Residential Advisors that will support our Upward Bound Summer 2026 program. This is a live-in, temporary position. Residential Advisors provide direct support to Upward Bound participants residing in the residence hall. This immersive role requires participation in every aspect of the summer program, including constant overnight supervision and resides in the dorm during the week. Residential employees work a maximum of 7 weeks, including a staff training week, living in the residence hall Sunday night through Thursday afternoon. The weekly rate of pay for this position is $528 (based on 32 hours).

Requirements

  • Communication Excellence: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and 3 years of college.
  • General Experience: Experience working with adolescents.
  • Specialized Experience: Previous relevant professional experience in one of the following: career development, college transitions, or academic excellence in your program of study.

  • Personal experience with, or a deep understanding of the challenges faced by low-income and first-generation college students.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and facilitates daily activities focused on academics, careers, wellness, and personal development.
  • Delivers the Upward Bound Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum through weekly advisor group sessions.
  • Organizes and leads daily wellness activities.
  • Tutors and assists students during nightly study sessions and “Common Time”.
  • Provides overnight supervision and manages bedtime hours in the dorm (excluding weekends/nights off).
  • Coordinates student transportation to and from various career sites.
  • Serves as a positive role model, providing companionship and guidance for intellectual growth.
  • Writes comprehensive evaluations for assigned students.
  • Attends staff meetings to discuss program planning and student concerns.
