Program Overview The University of Notre Dame Upward Bound Program is a federally funded educational opportunity program that provides fundamental academic support to 104 first-generation, low-income participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately, post-secondary pursuits. A component of Upward Bound is the Summer Academy, a supplemental six-week program that includes academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities designed to provide academic support, cultural enrichment, as well as, personal and career counseling. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rates at which participants enroll in and graduate from post-secondary institutions. Position Description Reporting directly to the Program Advisor and Upward Bound staff, the Academic and Residential Advisor will provide live-in supervision for high school students from culturally diverse backgrounds during the residential component of the Upward Bound Summer Academy. He/she will be responsible for the well-being of Upward Bound (UB) participants while in and out of the classroom; provide tutoring and peer counseling; the development, implementation, and monitoring of academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities; and serve as role model/mentor to grow the participants’ knowledge and understanding of what it takes to be successful in college while preparing for the following year of high school.
