UPS Technician III
About The Position
A UPS Technician III is responsible for startups, certifications, preventative maintenance, and scheduled maintenance for systems related to Uninterruptable Power Supply systems, including Battery Systems. This role requires the ability to perform UPS replacements and new installations, as well as preventative maintenance, trouble diagnosis, and routine and emergency repairs of all types of systems without supervision and with minimal disruption to the customer. The technician will install, trouble diagnose, repair, start-up, and commission all types of UPS systems. Additionally, the role involves leading jobs with multiple crew members, communicating effectively with various stakeholders, and operating equipment such as UPS systems, Battery systems, PDU’s, ATS, and AC/DC rectifiers. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential for interacting with co-workers, sales teams, engineering partners, management teams, and clients. The technician must be able to accurately assess human power requirements, estimate consumables and connectivity parts, and recognize when crew productivity and safety are jeopardized. Leadership, good judgment, and the ability to foster team morale and cooperation are crucial. The role also includes teaching learned skills to others and performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years UPS service experience.
- Electrical/mechanical experience relating to UPS systems, DC systems and knowledge of OEM’s such as: Eaton, Mitsubishi, Schneider, APC, GE, Emerson, etc.)
- Clean driving records
- Safe operation of department equipment
- Knowledge of or ability to learn basic AC/DC theory, electronic components, and electronic circuitry.
- Training on: Use of Digital multimeter for AC and DC diagnostic measurements
- Training on: Use of Amp Clamp and flexible CT in DC and AC measures
- Training on: Use of Phase Rotation Meter, Power Quality Analyzer, IR camera, and Oscilloscope.
- Understanding of proper use of: Isolation devices to control available voltage potentials.
- Understanding of proper use of: Necessary use of Arc-Flash suit and PPE.
- Competency in the connections of series, parallel, and series parallel.
- Understand torque values, torque-mark application, and visual inspection of completed installations.
- Understand and operate Phase Rotation meters, Power Quality
- US Citizenship Required
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
- OSHA 30-hour certification
- NFPA-70E Safety Training
- Thermography, level 2 or higher
Responsibilities
- Perform startups, certifications, preventative maintenance, and scheduled maintenance for Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) systems, including Battery Systems.
- Perform UPS replacements and new installations.
- Perform preventative maintenance, trouble diagnosis, routine, and emergency repairs of all types of systems without supervision and with minimal disruption to customer.
- Install, trouble diagnose, repair, start-up, and commission all types of UPS systems.
- Lead jobs with multiple crew members of various skill levels.
- Communicate and work effectively with general contractors, subcontractors, partners, and clients to complete projects on schedule and within budget.
- Properly operate all equipment including but not limited to: UPS systems, Battery systems, PDU’s, ATS, and AC/DC rectifiers without supervision.
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills with co-workers, sales teams, engineering partners, management teams, and clients.
- Accurately assess human power requirements for maintenance and installation services.
- Estimate consumables and connectivity parts for project completion.
- Recognize when crew productivity and safety are jeopardized due to duration of efforts or extreme conditions service crew members are being exposed to.
- Exercise leadership and good judgement resulting in healthy, harmonious, productive, and happy team performance.
- Exhibit characteristics that foster great team moral, and spirit of co-operation on job sites and operations center.
- Balance multiple needs and challenges from a multitude of directions.
- Teach learned skills, techniques, strategies, and methods to the next generation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
