About The Position

Mount Vernon School, established in 1972, serves over 1,250 students from Preschool through Grade 12 on its 40-acre Atlanta campus. Grounded in Christian values, Mount Vernon prepares students to be college-ready, globally competitive, and engaged citizen leaders. The school anchors the Mount Vernon Organization, aiming to design a better world through its online division (MVSO) and research/educational consultancy (MV Ventures). The Upper School Faculty is a collaborative and forward-thinking community of education professionals dedicated to creating real-world, project-based experiences that help students connect content in relevant and impactful ways. This team models inquisitiveness, nurturing, flexibility, and creativity, while employing an inquiry-based model and a mastery approach to teaching. Mount Vernon School is seeking an innovative and collaborative Upper School World Language teacher (Spanish). The ideal candidate will be passionate about world languages and cultures, promoting the mindsets and dispositions of an inclusive community focused on global citizenship. Versatility, collaboration, and openness to innovative instructional practices are essential. Availability to sponsor athletic, artistic, or academic teams/clubs is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Education, Spanish, Linguistics, World Languages or related field
  • Cultural background/experience in Latin/Hispanic contexts
  • Teaching experience
  • Proficiency with technological tools and platforms

Responsibilities

  • Provide meaningful instruction in Grades 9-12 Spanish using a variety of research-based and innovative teaching methods
  • Create well-planned nine-week units with a focus on problem-solving, and application
  • Create differentiated lessons to match the needs of each student in the classroom
  • Connect real-world learning with world language, both in instruction and practice
  • Timely maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records of each student's performance and progress & communication with students/families pertaining to progress
  • Care and nurture for the social and emotional needs of each student
  • Maintenance of an organized, inviting, and student-centered learning environment
  • Participation in duties (e.g. lunch, enrichment and carpool) and others as assigned
  • Possess strong character with an absolute drive for excellence, a team-oriented spirit, and a commitment to meeting the learning and social-emotional needs of students
