About The Position

Miami Country Day School seeks an enthusiastic and creative educator to fill the role of Upper School History Teacher to begin in August 2026. This person needs to be passionate about inquiry-based, student-centered learning and be committed to combining the power of forward-thinking skill development with the purposeful integration of research-based learning. JOB SUMMARY: Work with a collaborative team designing and implementing curriculum using the Understanding by Design framework, which guides students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The position involves teaching five sections of history, potentially including US History, Economics, and the potential to teach electives. The position also includes serving as an advisor to a group of 10-12 upper school students and becoming an enthusiastic participant in the Humanities Department and Upper School community.

Requirements

  • BA in history or related field
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • A lifelong learner willing to embrace new methodologies and explore the intricacies of pedagogy, assessment, and grading.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • AP experience desired but not required.
  • Experience in debate, mock trial desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, prepares, and delivers instructional units and lessons that facilitate active learning using the UbD teaching framework.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Demonstrates preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Observes and evaluates students' performance and development, providing timely feedback to students and their parents.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing norms and procedures.
  • Participates in department, school, and parent meetings.
  • Communicates regularly with students, colleagues, and parents about student progress and needs.
  • Participates in appropriate professional activities.
  • Performs supervisory duties as assigned.
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing.
  • Engages in continual professional growth and be a member of a dynamic community of learners
