About The Position

Ravenscroft is seeking an English Teacher and Advisor (2026–2027) in the Upper School English Department to contribute meaningfully to our student-centered, mission-driven community. This is a full-time, exempt, 10-month faculty position. This role is ideal for someone who takes initiative, collaborates thoughtfully, communities clearly and continuously reflects and grows as part of the school community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field
  • Strong content knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching Upper School English
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to use multiple technological tools effectively
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, empathy, and commitment to working in a diverse, inclusive, and mission-aligned school community
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and team-oriented approach with a demonstrated growth mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in English or Education (MA or MEd)
  • Experience teaching English in a K–12 or independent school setting
  • Experience supporting social-emotional learning inside and outside the classroom
  • Willingness and ability to participate in the broader school community, including coaching athletics

Responsibilities

  • Teach a full course load (approximately five sections) of Upper School English literature and/or composition; specific course assignments will depend on departmental needs and candidate qualifications.
  • Design and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction aligned with Ravenscroft’s mission to nurture individual potential and prepare students to thrive in a complex and interdependent world.
  • Facilitate inquiry-based, differentiated learning experiences that reflect best practices in English instruction and support diverse learners.
  • Create inclusive classroom environments that demonstrate cultural competence and foster meaningful connections with a diverse community of students, families, and colleagues.
  • Serve as an advisor to approximately 12 students, supporting their academic, social-emotional, and leadership development through the Lead From Here curriculum.
  • Utilize instructional technology and learning management systems, including Canvas and Veracross , to support teaching, learning, and communication.
  • Collaborate as a reflective, growth-minded colleague within a strong and cohesive English Department and across the school community.
