The Rivers School — a 6-12 co-ed independent day school in Weston, MA, just outside Boston — seeks professionals who are looking to join a dynamic, innovative, and welcoming school community. The Rivers School seeks a full-time Upper School English teacher to join our dynamic and collaborative faculty. This position will likely entail teaching four sections of 9th and 10th grade. Our English Department is grounded in the belief that literature and writing empower students to engage meaningfully with the world, fostering empathy and personal growth. For this reason, we are looking for a mission-driven educator. The ideal candidate will be a creative and thoughtful practitioner who embraces innovation and is eager to explore the deeper questions of what it means (and should mean) to teach English today given the rise of generative AI. Because students at Rivers thrive in the context of supportive relationships, we seek someone who cares deeply for students’ wellbeing and understands the importance of connecting with students as part of inspiring their engagement in the classroom. Candidates for this position should possess strong organizational skills and a commitment to advancing the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) mission in addition to two years’ experience teaching English (preferably at the high school level). A bachelor’s degree in English or a related field is required; a master’s degree in English, education, or creative writing is preferred. Rivers encourages interest from candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, experience, and perspectives among our faculty body and school community. Rivers offers BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and white ally affinity spaces for faculty, as well as school-wide professional development to support and enrich our DEI work. In addition to extensive mentoring from the Department Chair and Dean of Faculty, all first-year faculty members benefit from a close relationship with a peer mentor and take part in a year-long onboarding program led by the Director of New Faculty Development.
