About The Position

We are seeking a teacher to join our English department, where they will instruct core English courses across the Middle School and Upper School Divisions. Marlborough's English courses emphasize the development of skills related to reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking, and teachers collaborate as part of a team to ensure a consistent and cohesive experience for students. Beyond classroom teaching, this position offers the opportunity to be an active participant in the dynamic Marlborough community, engaging in various aspects of school life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Arts in English.
  • A minimum of 3 years of proven success teaching English at the secondary level.
  • Demonstrates confidence in their subject matter and pedagogical expertise, while staying dedicated to ongoing professional development and teaching innovation.
  • Thrive in collaborative environments and excel at designing and executing curriculum as a member of a teaching team.
  • Possess an interest, enthusiasm for, and commitment to teaching middle school students in addition to high school students.
  • Has a passion for supporting the developmental needs of teenagers, with the ability to balance high expectations with a high level of support.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, planning and interpersonal skills.

  • A graduate degree in English is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four English sections.
  • Collaborate with fellow English faculty in teacher teams, contributing to lesson preparation as needed.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver academically sophisticated and pedagogically engaging lessons for the appropriate developmental level and course designation.
  • Cultivate a safe, engaging learning environment for students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators.
  • Adhere to Marlborough’s academic policies, guidelines, and expectations while modeling a commitment to student wellbeing.
  • Serve as a grade-level advisor to a group of approximately 12 students.
  • Fulfill daily homeroom responsibilities, including submitting student attendance, making daily announcements, and ensuring students start their day well prepared.
  • Participate actively in department, grade-level, and school activities contributing to a collaborative and mission-aligned school culture.
