About The Position

This is an Upper Elementary Lead Teacher position in Grade 5 with homeroom and teaching responsibilities for math and social studies. A skilled co-lead teacher is already in place; we're looking for someone who will be a real collaborator, not just a colleague. The lead teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the Grade 5 mathematics and social studies curriculum, assessing students' educational development, communicating with families, and contributing to the school's larger mission. We are looking for someone who genuinely likes this age group, has solid content knowledge in both subjects, and shares a commitment to our school’s values. The position starts August 24, 2026, for the 2026-2027 school year.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education
  • Experience working with children in this age range
  • Experience supporting a wide range of learners within a diverse school setting
  • Possess a strong understanding of the developmental needs of early elementary-aged students
  • Proven success working collaboratively with colleagues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with grade-level colleagues, plan and implement the academic program, including implementing Illustrative Mathematics and Investing History curricula
  • Utilize the Open Circle curriculum and attend to the social and emotional development of individual students and the class as a whole
  • Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress toward learning objectives
  • Differentiate teaching methods, assignments, and/or assessments to meet students’ needs
  • Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and safety, and order materials to support the curriculum and classroom environment
  • Communicate regularly with families concerning student progress and information about academic programming and classroom events
  • Plan and conduct parent/guardian-teacher conferences
  • Write narrative reports to record and communicate student progress
  • Write letters of recommendation for student applications to ongoing schools, as needed
  • Support and supervise classroom interns or associate teachers, as applicable
  • Collaborate with learning specialists, special subject teachers, and student teachers, as applicable
  • Manage classroom administrative tasks, including taking daily attendance
  • Perform dismissal, lunch, and recess duties as assigned
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students
  • Plan and support field trips and other activities to enrich the educational experience, including the fifth-grade overnight trip in the spring
  • Attend staff meetings and school professional development as scheduled
  • Participate in all-school events, such as admissions open houses, curriculum nights, and the Carnival, that take place outside of regular work hours
  • Regularly update curriculum materials
  • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to ensure continual growth and renewal
  • Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned
