About The Position

This position is for the 1st shift Upholstery team. The Upholstery Lead will be responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of a Final Phase Trim shop. This role involves planning and scheduling workloads, ensuring manpower and materials are available to support workflow targets, and assisting the service center and management in achieving company goals. The individual will ensure all department work is completed in a timely manner, meets quality and quantity requirements, and that personnel are qualified and trained. This role also supports corporate safety, FOD, and 5S programs, and ensures compliance with all relevant manuals and procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience with leather work, gluing, sewing, patterning, and sanding.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years experience in upholstery to include 2 years aircraft upholstery experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of upholstery and sewing processes and products and/or advance carpet knowledge including being able to install custom carpets.
  • Must possess a strong willingness to learn and work within a team environment.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, move, push, pull and install 30-50 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to wear all required safety equipment.
  • Must be able to walk, sit, stand, climb, crawl, twist, bend, gain entry to, work in confined areas and working from stands and ladders.
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends and shifts when required to meet business needs.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and proper usage methods for most hand tools, table saw, planer, jointer, bandsaw, router, and cordless power tools preferred.
  • Mechanical background, mechanic (automotive, small engine, powersports, diesel), welding, woodworking, cabinet building, and/or finish carpentry experience is preferred but not required.
  • If applicable, Airframe and/or Powerplant License or Repairman Certificate is required.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the day to day activities of a Final Phase Trim shop.
  • Plans and schedules workloads, ensuring manpower and material come together supporting workflow targets.
  • Assists service center and management in achieving company goals and policies.
  • Ensures all department work is completed in a timely manner and meets requirements for quality and quantity.
  • Ensures maximum technician motivation, efficiency and discipline in accordance with GAC policies and procedures.
  • Assigns and monitors work loads of department, ensuring all work is accomplished in accordance with current approved technical data, including engineering drawings, maintenance manuals, service bulletins and airworthiness directives.
  • Ensures that department personnel are qualified and trained to perform work assignments.
  • Fully supports the corporate safety, FOD and 5S programs.
  • Assists the team as required to achieve milestone dates and meet goals through proficient hands on work, guidance, ensuring required equipment and material is available.
  • Ensures all required paperwork and documentation, such as, ADTS, CDMS, CMP cards, and R&I log and Corridor are accomplished.
  • Ensures design and engineering drawings are used and followed.
  • Interprets material specifications and design/engineering drawings to ensure finished product meets design and engineering requirements.
  • Accomplishes weekly safety audits and assists team members in doing safety audits.
  • Leads or serves on Lean and Quality Improvement teams to ensure local and corporate goals are achieved.
  • Assists in maintaining shop equipment and associated JSAs.
  • Ensures compliance with and champions safety, 5S, housekeeping policies.
  • Ensures that aircraft interiors are protected (PTP).
  • Leads local and corporate safety initiatives.
  • In support of aircraft certification and final phase testing, may include flight tests on aircraft as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Plans, lays-out, assembles, and installs components working from blueprints, verbal instructions, sketches, customer requests, FAA and GAC specifications as required.
  • Remain knowledgeable in the safe operation of all shop equipment, hand tools and the usage of all pertinent hardware that pertains to the specific department they are assigned.
  • Remain proficient in all artisan skills and provides technical expertise as required to engineering and management.
  • Possess excellent housekeeping skills.
