About The Position

The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking organized, detail-oriented individuals with excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills to serve as an intern in Judge's Chambers or one of our Divisions (Civil, Criminal, Family, Probation, IT and Operations). Selected candidates will have the opportunity to learn many aspects of case processing and gain practical experience and valuable insight into the judicial process. Internships may be available in Cumberland County, Gloucester County, and Salem County for the Fall 2026 semester (tentatively September to December). This is an unpaid internship. Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position, and remote work is not applicable. Travel between all three counties may be required.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate students who are attending an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply.
  • Must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting.
  • Applicants must complete the work experience and education sections and attach any required documents.
  • Applications must describe all relevant work experience in detail, beginning with your current or most recent job, including military service (indicate rank), internships and job-related volunteer work, if applicable.
  • Use a separate section to describe each position.
  • Applicants who indicate "see resume" or enter their initials to acknowledge that they have skipped the Work History and Education sections will not be considered, unless they do not possess any education history or work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails
  • Contact and follow up with applicants and/or members of the public
  • Perform special projects
  • Conduct research and analysis
  • Perform computer related work
  • Collect and enter data
  • Provide customer service
  • Draft correspondence and memos
  • Attend community planning meetings
  • Organize and scan paper files, and upload into an electronic filing system
  • Assist staff and perform other duties as directed
  • Prepare filings for judge and staff review, including document retrieval, and providing documents to chambers
  • Analyze data
  • Draft memoranda
  • Prepare paperwork and process legal documents
  • Participate in team projects

  • Moderate virtual hearings
