About The Position

The purpose of this position is to sort and distribute incoming merchandise to specified sorters to supplement the stores productivity and increase sales. This role involves unloading, processing, and maintaining the work area to ensure efficient production and safety. The unloader sets the pace for the entire production process and must work collaboratively with team members to maintain a smooth workflow.

Requirements

  • Must be able to unload quickly.
  • Must work well with the Back Up to ensure the flow continues.
  • Must be able to give the sorter as much variety as possible.
  • Must be able to meet timelines and production goals and standards.
  • Must maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area.
  • Must have the ability to observe the production process and communicate with the supervisor, sorters and Back Up.
  • Must provide a hazard-free environment.
  • Must read the arc safety policy, sign the document acknowledging the understanding of it and to practice it.
  • Ability to work as a productive member of a team.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Works inside a production environment.
  • Exposure to temperature fluctuations.
  • Exposure to dust and debris from donations is ongoing/continual.
  • During the work shift, the employee is walking or standing 100% of the time.
  • Must be able to reach above shoulder height.
  • Must have eye-hand coordination.
  • Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to push donation racks weighing up to 400 lbs.
  • Must be able to move up to 500 lbs. with the aid of a pallet jack or dolly.
  • Must be able to bend and crouch.
  • There is repetitive use of hands.
  • Must be able to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for the entire work shift.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling changes due to store needs.
  • May require overtime from time to time due to store needs.

Responsibilities

  • Tally every full donation “container” with a supervisor before starting to unload.
  • Unload quickly and set the pace for the production process.
  • Communicate with the Back Up to ensure the flow continues by letting them know ahead of time when things are needed.
  • Pull boxes and bags from carts, melon boxes and other containers, opening them and removing the items.
  • Separate all saleable items from trash. Only throw away items that are obviously damaged; if an item is debatable, send it to the sorter.
  • Place non-saleable items into the trash or into a hamper for baling.
  • Push processed, saleable items to the appropriate sorter or place items into a bin at the workstation, providing variety to the sorter.
  • Meet timelines and production goals and standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area for safety and efficient production.
  • Ensure full carts are in place and work with the Back Up to replace empty carts, other containers, and remove trash.
  • Observe the production process and communicate with the supervisor, sorters, and Back Up to ensure the flow of product is moving quickly.
  • Provide a hazard-free environment by picking up loose items on the floor quickly, cleaning up breakages or spills, and providing help as needed.
  • Report hazards to a supervisor.
  • Practice the arc safety policy.
  • Work as a productive member of a team.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested by their supervisor or manager.
