The Unlicensed Aircraft Mechanic is responsible for ensuring that aircraft and their equipment are functioning safely and efficiently. They service, repair, and overhaul various aircraft components and systems, including airframes, engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, propellers, avionics equipment, and aircraft instruments. This role involves performing the full range of airframe and engine maintenance, repair, modifications, inspections, and servicing of aircraft in accordance with approved methods, techniques, and practices, and certifying the work accomplished. The mechanic will troubleshoot engines and systems, utilize the Federal Supply System, read and understand mechanical manuals and schematics, interpret all instruments, use special test equipment and tools, and research relevant sections of the Aviation Facilities Division. Additionally, they will perform full system checkouts on all aircraft systems, mechanic test flight duties, and complete aircraft servicing. The Unlicensed Aircraft Mechanic may also be required to accompany Research and Development aircraft on project flights away from the worksite and perform maintenance at locations other than AIMS New Jersey. Other related duties may be assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
