MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT: As a UNIX/Linux OS Administrator, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of USSTRATCOM. USSTRATCOM is a Combatant Command responsible for strategic deterrence, nuclear operations, and enterprise IT services essential to national security. It oversees Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3), Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (JEMSO), Global Strike, and Missile Threat Assessments, working closely with other Combatant Commands, Services, and defense agencies. SCITLS will be a key component that will ensure mission success and the safety of the U.S. and its allies by providing 24/7 IT services and network support for NIPRNet, SIPRNet, JWICS, and SAP/SAR environment. You will play a crucial role in providing administration support in the following areas: Perform systems administration for enterprise Linux/Unix solution. Install, configure, and maintain Linux/Unix operating systems. Analyze and resolve problems associated with the operating system’s servers, hardware, applications, and software. Monitor system performance and ensure compliance with security standards. Monitor everyday system, evaluate availability of all server resources, and performs all activities for Linux servers. Assist with configuring and deploying all virtual machines and install and provide backup to all configuration procedures. Maintain and monitor all patch releases, designs various patch installation strategies, and maintain all systems according to program standards. Provides Tier 2 and 3 troubleshooting support, interfacing the end users and other technical teams from a service support perspective. Conduct Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance assessments, harden Linux systems according to DoW standards, and ensure adherence to security policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • BS degree; may be substituted for additional years of experience
  • 3+ years of IT/DoW systems administration experience
  • Security Clearance Level: Top Secret with SCI eligibility
  • Required Certifications: ITIL 4 Foundation certified within 9 months of start; GFACT or CND or Security+ or GSEC
  • Strong experience with Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE)
  • Experience with VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM, or cloud‑based VMs
  • Understanding of security hardening standards (DISA STIGs, CIS benchmarks)
  • OS patching and vulnerability remediation
  • SELinux or AppArmor experience
  • Managing firewall rules (firewalld, iptables)
  • Secure configuration of SSH, PAM, sudo policies
  • Strong troubleshooting communication (translating technical issues)
  • Incident response and root‑cause analysis
  • Ability to escalate and collaborate with networking, storage, and security teams
