About The Position

The Universal Associate is responsible for providing exceptional member service by welcoming and directing members, explaining credit union services and products, and resolving account discrepancies. This role involves performing daily tasks such as opening and closing accounts, conducting account research, and assisting members with technology-related issues. The Universal Associate also plays a key role in promoting credit union products and services to build financial relationships and counseling members on money management. Additionally, this position is responsible for originating, processing, and closing consumer loans, evaluating loan applications, and coordinating loan closings. The role also includes assisting with loan servicing, processing transactions, maintaining branch operational standards, controlling branch cash, identifying potential fraud, and completing special projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • At least one year of experience in a service-oriented role.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet, and Email.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous cash-handling experience in a financial institution is preferred.
  • Strong math skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and direct members visiting the branch, creating a positive member experience.
  • Present and explain credit union services and products, opening and closing accounts, and conducting account research.
  • Resolve member account discrepancies by performing file maintenance and making necessary account changes.
  • Assist members with troubleshooting technology-related transactions and issues.
  • Maintain the credit union’s professional reputation by adhering to professional standards and following guidelines and policies.
  • Identify, recommend, and promote products and services to build financial relationships.
  • Counsel members regarding money management and financial matters.
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to achieving credit union, branch, and individual goals.
  • Use consultative conversations to assess member needs and recommend appropriate products and services.
  • Promote and establish strong, positive, and productive working relationships within the organization.
  • Interview and gather preliminary documents to originate, process, and close consumer loans.
  • Evaluate and verify loan applications and credit criteria, compute debit ratios, verify employment and income, determine collateral value, and recommend loans for approval.
  • Notify applicants of loan decisions and request additional information if required.
  • Coordinate and process loan closings, ensuring loans are promptly and properly prepared, documented, processed, and disbursed.
  • Assist in servicing loans by processing items such as payoffs, refinances, loan workout arrangements, address changes, payment extensions, collateral releases, and payment due date changes.
  • Process transactions that cannot be completed through automated channels in the branch.
  • Maintain a balancing record that meets established standards for transactions performed.
  • Assist members with the ATM+ machines as required.
  • Complete branch operational duties, including ensuring branch security procedures are followed, assisting with monthly branch audit responsibilities, assisting with the internal review checklist, and compiling reports.
  • Assist with controlling branch cash, including balancing cash drawers, the branch vault, cash recyclers, cash orders, and balancing the ATM+ machines.
  • Identify and report/escalate potentially fraudulent activity, keeping the manager informed of activities and significant concerns.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
