The Unit Tech/Monitor Tech assumes responsibility for the organization and clerical activities for the nursing unit. This role involves setting up and communicating ready rooms for labor, C-section, undelivered and surgical patients. The Unit Tech works collaboratively with nursing assistants, nurses, and OB techs to maintain unit cleanliness, including cleaning patient equipment. They are responsible for stocking medication rooms, infant cribs, and epidural carts, and for ordering supplies. Effective communication with patients, visitors, and staff is essential, as is performing unit tasks efficiently. The role requires accuracy and efficiency in computer and clerical skills, gathering and distributing clinical data, and maintaining an orderly nurses' station. Documentation must be legible and follow hospital policy. Utilization of equipment such as printers, computers, telephones, and fax machines is expected. Employees must demonstrate competency in technology and computers for charting and related functions. Active participation in the unit's Performance Improvement (PI) plan, awareness and implementation of National Patient Safety Goals, and making suggestions for improved operations are also key aspects of the role.
