About The Position

This role serves as a key point of contact for patients, providers, nursing homes, and clinical staff by coordinating laboratory orders, scheduling appointments, managing patient communications, and supporting daily office operations. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least one year experience in a healthcare setting and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • May require Basic Life Support (BLS) certification dependent upon department.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous healthcare, medical office, customer service, or clerical experience preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory ordering processes.
  • Experience scheduling appointments and handling patient phone calls.
  • Experience working with healthcare providers, nursing homes, or clinical support teams.

Responsibilities

  • Process Direct Access laboratory orders for patients.
  • Answer incoming patient phone calls and assist with inquiries.
  • Enter laboratory orders received via fax, hand delivery, electronic transmission, or from nursing home facilities.
  • Contact provider offices to obtain missing, incomplete, or expired laboratory orders.
  • Schedule patient appointments and assist with appointment coordination.
  • Receive and process incoming patient specimens according to established procedures.
  • Assist with patient check-in responsibilities during staff breaks and coverage needs.
  • Perform filing, scanning, and other clerical duties to maintain accurate records.
  • Complete light cleaning and organization of work areas to support a clean and professional environment.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff, providers, nursing homes, and other departments to ensure efficient patient service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Answering phone calls and responding to inquiries from patients/residents, outlying facilities or providers about healthcare programs and services or request of transferring patients into a facility.
  • Depending on the department, may provide support to RN or physician staff or receiving and dispatching correspondence for designated unit.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks, such as ordering supplies and scheduling.
  • Collaborating to create and maintain a clean environment within healthcare facilities.
  • Depending on department, direct patient contact will vary.
