About The Position

The Unit Secretary performs clerical duties supporting the operations of the patient care team. This role is crucial for the smooth functioning of the Oncology Surgical ICU at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, a leading institution in cancer treatment and research. The unit, Division 7800 ICU, is a 25-bed Intensive Care Unit with 10 beds dedicated to oncology and bone marrow transplant patients. It provides care for critically ill patients with oncology, bone marrow transplant diagnoses, and those requiring ICU care post-surgery. The unit collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, case managers, social workers, and other support staff, to ensure comprehensive patient care. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Supports the clinical operations by providing customer service and clerical support.
  • Transcribes physician orders as appropriate with close attention to detail.
  • Notifies appropriate nurse when STAT orders are written or when coordinating tests and procedures.
  • Communicates new orders to the healthcare team as appropriate.
