About The Position

The Unit Secretary position is for the 6 Meijer Heart Center (6 Heart), a 46-bed cardiac and vascular progressive/stepdown unit. This unit serves patients with various cardiac and vascular diseases requiring medical, procedural, or surgical interventions, including conditions such as acute coronary syndrome, acute myocardial infarction, post-percutaneous coronary intervention, peripheral artery disease, renal artery disease, aortic aneurysm, carotid artery disease, and heart rhythm disorders. The Unit Secretary performs receptionist and secretarial duties, maintains confidential records, and manages supplies and equipment according to hospital and unit standards. They are responsible for greeting and directing guests, performing computer entries, scheduling tests and procedures, processing orders, and providing clerical support. This includes answering phone calls, assisting visitors and outside team members with directions, calling for support services as directed by clinical staff, aiding with admission/discharge/transfer paperwork, ordering supplies, ensuring room stocking, and addressing non-direct patient care needs via call lights.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of relevant/related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs receptionist/secretarial duties and maintains confidential records, supplies and equipment per hospital and unit specific standards.
  • Greets and directs guests on the unit in a manner that reflects a welcoming environment.
  • Performs computer entry, schedules tests/procedures, processes orders, and performs other related activities per unit/hospital standard within a reasonable time frame.
  • Takes phone calls.
  • Helps with directions to all visitors and outside team members to the unit (lab, radiology, patient transport, nutrition services, environmental services, etc).
  • Calls support when directed by clinical staff.
  • Assists with discharge/admit/transfer paperwork.
  • Orders supplies.
  • Ensures rooms are appropriately stocked.
  • Answers call lights for any non-direct patient care needs.
