About The Position

The Unit Assistant provides clerical support in the Emergency Department. Facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff and employees. Serves as a public relations liaison for the unit.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma/GED
  • Healthcare Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming phone calls for the Emergency Department (ED).
  • Manage patient admissions and discharges within the EPIC electronic medical record system.
  • Complete data tracking and documentation for EKGs and telemetry boxes.
  • Serve as a liaison between outside facilities, physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to coordinate patient care and communication.
  • Maintain and replenish office and nursing station supplies.
  • Complete and maintain administrative paperwork for ED staff.
  • Schedule non-emergent patient transportation.
  • Facilitate communication between hospital departments, clinics, and nursing units.
  • Notify nursing staff of required tests, examinations, and significant patient concerns.
  • Support communication between physicians, patients, families, and clinical staff.
  • Initiate and document daily Level 1 Trauma and Medical Alert system testing.
  • Send and receive items through the pneumatic tube system.
  • Submit work orders for facility and equipment issues.
  • Remove, label, and route broken equipment to appropriate locations for repair.
  • Monitor and coordinate patient flow within the Emergency Department.
  • Provide clerical and operational support to ensure efficient department workflows.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation within departmental systems.
  • Support unit operations through effective communication and coordination of resources.
