About The Position

The Family Birth Center is a 12-bed unit with potential to overflow to 17 patients averaging 700-800 births per year. The patient population consists of labor and delivery, mother and baby, triage, C-sections, caring for newborns, unstable newborns until they are transferred. Cross trained to all aspects of antepartum. Patients are seen a month before delivery. Scope of work Performs receptionist/secretarial duties and maintains confidential records, supplies and equipment per hospital and unit specific standards. Greets and directs guests on the unit in a manner that reflects a welcoming environment. Performs computer entry, schedules tests/procedures, processes orders, and performs other related activities per unit/hospital standard within a reasonable time frame. The Unit Secretary is the point person on each unit for clerical support. Responsibilities include taking phone calls, helping with directions to all visitors and outside team members to the unit (lab, radiology, patient transport, nutrition services, environmental services, etc.), calling support when directed by clinical staff, assisting with discharge/admit/transfer paperwork, ordering supplies, general comfort ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked, answering call lights for any non-direct patient care needs, supports mothers with mobility assistance, holds and soothe newborns as needed, assists with newborn hearing screenings, and provides hands-on support in a dynamic environment - this is not a desk only job.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Cert required within 90 days
  • Required experience in customer service, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as an LPN.
  • Previous OB and hospital experience.
