This Unit Secretary position supports the Unit Director and Staff in the OrthoNeuro Oncology department at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

Requirements

High school diploma, General Educational Development (GED), or equivalent required.
6-12 months of office experience.
Ability to provide quality customer service.
Proficiency with multi-line phone systems.
Data entry skills.
Keyboarding skills.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
Ability to multi-task.
Ability to work with interruptions.

Responsibilities

Promotes positive relations with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers, and co-workers through friendly and helpful interactions.
Acts as the department receptionist, managing incoming and outgoing information via in-person and telephone communication with proper etiquette.
Assists with maintaining the orderliness of patient care areas and the nurses' station, including filing, cleaning, and stocking printers.
Assists with patient admissions by ensuring rooms are ready, delivering patient folders, escorting patients, verifying identification, and notifying the assigned nurse.
Completes inventory of supplies and materials, orders supplies, and monitors for outdated items.
Provides clerical support by labeling and scanning documents into the electronic health record, handling facsimile requests, and providing phone communication with departments or agencies.
Assists with communication to physician offices for consults, including conveying orders, providing appointment verification, and data retrieval.
Maintains patient lists and correct status in the Bedboard system, entering discharges and transfers, and placing rooms on hold as directed.
