About The Position

The Unit Secretary provides clerical services and under the direction and supervision of the R.N. charge nurse. Acts as a unit receptionist, responsible for clerical and secretarial functions, and transcribing orders. Works as an interdepartmental liaison and serves as a public relations representative. Performs other duties as directed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • No prior work experience required
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication skills for documentation and patient, family, and staff interactions to convey clear concise instructions and to accept information to understand and make decisions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate and work effectively with others to promote safe, efficient care.
  • Exhibit the Tanner Standards of Behavior.
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with the standards and policy for Private Medical Record.
  • Communicate with patients, visitors and families in a manner which promotes patient satisfaction.
  • Knowledgeable in the review of data within the electronic record.
  • Knowledgeable in the entry and review of orders utilizing the Provider Order Management system.
  • Knowledgeable as it relates to down time processes, management of stock and clerical supplies.
  • Effectively understands and operates equipment appropriate to the department clerical needs.
  • Responsible for knowledge of policies & procedures and Standards related to HIPPA, Code of Ethics, Use of POM, Meditech usage, departmental standards and performance initiatives etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a unit receptionist, responsible for clerical and secretarial functions, and transcribing orders.
  • Works as an interdepartmental liaison and serves as a public relations representative.
  • Coordination of basic departmental work flow: as the focal point for coordination of communication, management of the record both electronic and paper, as a resource for interdepartmental services and communication and the management of basic departmental data (transport logs / client account tracking / patient satisfaction initiatives).
  • Knowledgeable as it relates to down time processes, management of stock and clerical supplies.
  • Effectively understands and operates equipment appropriate to the department clerical needs.
  • Responsible for documentation of vital signs and weights as requested in compliance with policy and standards.
  • Knowledgeable in the review of data within the electronic record.
  • Knowledgeable in the entry and review of orders utilizing the Provider Order Management system.
  • Responsibly manages resources in a conscientious manner.
  • Participates in the cleaning and storage of equipment in compliance with Infection Prevention standards.
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives for the department and facility as directed.
  • Responsible for knowledge of policies & procedures and Standards related to HIPPA, Code of Ethics, Use of POM, Meditech usage, departmental standards and performance initiatives etc.)
  • Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program.
  • Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.
