About The Position

The Position Incumbent works under the direction of the Director of Nursing or designee, performing secretarial duties for the efficient operation of Community Mental Health Center Units. Essential Functions Perform secretarial duties (e.g. create/maintain patient records, prepare/generate reports). Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public. Comply with Civil Service rules and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment. Adhere to established procedures and practices, and follow patient rights guidelines. Assemble and record information for patient admission, transfer, or dismissal. Maintain unit supplies and inventory, and report facility/building concerns. Support staff when electronic health record (EHR) system is offline. Report immediately any suspicion/allegation of patient abuse/neglect to a Nurse Manager or the Director of Psychiatric Nursing. Observe, adhere to, and promote emergency/safety protocols and measures. Maintain confidentiality of department records (e.g. patient, employee information, communication, documentation), and comply with federal privacy regulations. Maintain a clean and orderly work setting. Ensure EHR system manual, forms, and other regulations are updated and posted, scanning assigned documents. Recognize individuals with co-occurring disorders and trauma are expected and are welcome into treatment. Assist in authorization of funding for initial and concurrent reviews for authorization of inpatient hospitalization. Assist in training of other staff. Provide clerical support to other units/divisions. Participate in department quality improvement activities, and report results. Maintain a current understanding of the EHR. Secure appropriate information from staff, assuring forms are complete. Observe and monitor unit in absence of Supervisor. Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County business. Report to with regular, consistent attendance. Perform other duties as assigned and directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two (2) years of clerical work experience in a health care facility required.
  • Valid driver’s license upon hire and maintained throughout employment required.
  • Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen required.
  • Completion of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training within 6 months of hire required.
  • Equivalent combination of work experience and education may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.
