The Unit Secretary works cooperatively with all members of the health care team in performing clerical and receptionist duties and assists clinical personnel with nonclinical duties. They act as a resource for patients and family/visitors, addressing administrative needs in a respectful and caring manner. This role adheres to infection prevention, policies, and procedures to ensure safe and optimal care. The Unit Secretary assists in providing patient comfort and safety, communicates effectively with patients, families, and medical staff, and complies with Joint Commission’s national patient safety goals and organizational quality dashboard/benchmarking goals. They identify common variables affecting patient care and follow the reporting process, maintaining cooperative working relationships with hospital team members. The position participates in activities aligned with the Magnet Model and organizational activities, reporting matters requiring Nursing intervention immediately. They support patient care within their scope of practice as directed by other healthcare team members and utilize resources economically.
