Capital Health is seeking a Unit Secretary for the Emergency Room. This is a per diem position with variable shifts. The Unit Secretary is responsible for accurately transcribing physicians' orders, maintaining patient care tools like Kardex and MAR, and managing patient charts in compliance with Medical Records guidelines. They ensure the integrity of medical records, maintain chart organization, and prepare charts for patient transfers or discharges. The role also involves maintaining patient census boards, log books, and computer databases, ensuring accuracy and currency of information. Additionally, the Unit Secretary manages unit supplies, prepares unit charges, and handles telephone communications, including taking messages and paging personnel. They facilitate patient movement within the unit, coordinate with transport and admission personnel, and provide non-clinical information to patients, families, and visitors. Monitoring communication for patient confidentiality and scheduling diagnostic tests are also key responsibilities. The position may also involve handling medication deliveries from the Pharmacy.
