About The Position

As a Unit Secretary at Meritus Health's Behavioral Health Crisis Center, you will be the central coordinator for a high-acuity clinical team. This full-time role, operating Monday to Friday from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, is crucial for ensuring seamless patient care and operational efficiency. You will be responsible for organizing unit activities, supporting clinical workflows, and maintaining medical records with precision. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively to support patient safety and throughput initiatives. Your role involves direct interaction with patients, providers, and staff, often handling over 100 unique interactions daily, all while upholding the organization's values of compassion, excellence, integrity, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of an accredited business or medical assistant course, or equivalent experience required
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, clerical-level typing, and Windows-based applications preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple events and requests simultaneously
  • Ability to remain focused and responsive in a dynamic, high-volume environment
  • Professional communication and customer service skills
  • Comfort interacting with a wide range of individuals, including physicians, patients, department heads, and visitors
  • Commitment to accuracy, timeliness, and patient-centered service

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, organize, and prioritize unit activities to support patient safety and throughput
  • Handle multiple simultaneous tasks and requests in a high-stress clinical setting
  • Support the healthcare team by managing communications, documentation, and procedural coordination
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the medical record from admission through discharge
  • Accurately enter and verify physician orders in the electronic health record (EHR) system (inpatient setting)
  • Interact professionally with physicians, patients, visitors, and staff—often exceeding 100 unique interactions daily
