This job performs clerical duties including: maintaining patient records, scheduling patients for tests/procedures, transcribing physician orders, ordering supplies, and acting as a liaison between physicians, nursing, hospital staff, families, guests and patients. The role also recognizes and reports arrhythmia and computer data to the Registered Nurse. Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Unit secretary or on-the-job training; or 6 months of clerical or healthcare related experience; or completion of a nursing fundamentals class.
  • The US training/experience requirement will be waived if the applicant has successfully passed the Prisma Health arrhythmia exam.
  • After hire, requires attendance of formal arrhythmia training class and successful completion of the Prisma Health Arrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score within 2 attempts.
  • Successful completion of the arrhythmia exam must be completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Arrhythmia competencies must be maintained on an annual basis if selected into a monitor tech role.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate patient records; ensures that charts are current, complete and thinned as needed according to Policies and Procedures.
  • Correctly schedules diagnostic procedures, exams and special procedures in a timely manner.
  • Accurately transcribes physician orders.
  • Adequately orders, stores and maintains supplies.
  • Acts as a liaison between physicians, nursing, hospital staff, families, guests and patients.
  • Utilizes communication equipment effectively and relays information to appropriate personnel.
  • Accurately informs physician and ancillary departments of patient admission, discharge, transfer or death in a timely manner.
  • Accurately recognizes and reports arrhythmia and computer data according to Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains proper documentation of patient records according to Policies and Procedures.
