Unit Secretary - Emergency Department (FT Day Shift)

About The Position

Performs and participates in administrative duties which assist a hospital unit to function optimally. Maintains an organized healthcare setting and allows medical and nursing staff to focus on patient care. Maintains a line of communication between the patients and clinical staff.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Moderate computer skill including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work with people in close situations, using excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization ability.
  • Multitasking and time management is critical to performance of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Proficient in use of the computer, with good typing skills.
  • Understands medical terminology and hospital department workflows.
  • Enters orders in the computer accurately.
  • Answers telephones professionally and promptly.
  • Assists with registration, billing, and insurance authorization activities as needed.
  • Schedules appointments, arranges transportation as needed.
  • Familiar with Policies, Procedures, and Protocols. Care and Documentation meets current standards of practice and complies with all such guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the department and organizational performance in accordance with Curry Health Network’s Mission, Vision and Shared Values.
