About The Position

MercyOne Clinton Medical Center is a Catholic, not-for-profit, full-service community health system serving counties in eastern Iowa and western Illinois, with a mission to improve the health of its communities. The Unit Secretary/Nurse Assistant is a member of MercyOne Clinton Medical Center’s healthcare team, working under the direct supervision of a registered professional nurse to provide quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care. This role involves assisting patients with activities of daily living and addressing their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, consistent with the mission of MercyOne Clinton. Additionally, as a Unit Secretary, the individual performs clerical and receptionist duties under the direction and supervision of the Unit Director, including transcribing physician orders, performing computer order entry, scheduling diagnostic tests and therapies, managing patient charts, completing billing documentation, and handling telephone communications.

Requirements

  • Certified Nurse Aide, verification of certification from the State of Iowa.
  • Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to work concurrently on a variant of tasks in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.
  • Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care by assisting the patient with activities of daily living, as well as, other physical, emotional and spiritual needs consistent with the mission of MercyOne Clinton, vision of patient care services, evidence-based standard of care and established policies and procedures.
  • Perform clerical and receptionist duties under the direction and supervision of the Unit Director.
  • Transcribe selected physician orders.
  • Perform order entry on the computer.
  • Schedule diagnostic tests and therapies for patients.
  • Assemble admission and discharge charts and maintain patient medical records.
  • Complete documentation for billing.
  • Answer telephone calls.
  • Provide routine approved information via telephone and in person and relay other calls and messages to appropriate staff.
