About The Position

This position serves as a Unit Secretary/CNA, responsible for administrative tasks related to medical records and patient care coordination, as well as providing direct resident care. The role involves managing patient information, scheduling, ordering supplies, and ensuring the smooth operation of the nursing station. Additionally, the position requires performing resident care duties, including transportation, ADL assistance, and ensuring resident safety. The role may require flexibility in unit assignment and assistance during emergency situations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Virginia CNA License.
  • CPR certification required upon hire or willing to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone, make appointments, and relay messages courteously.
  • Answer call lights in a timely manner.
  • Thin and file papers in the Medical Records room.
  • Maintain required forms in file drawers for nurse's use.
  • Prepare consults and monitor for delays or lack of response for scheduling.
  • Prepare charts for doctors' scheduled visits.
  • Keep nurses station orderly at all times.
  • Order supplies from Central Supply for nurses.
  • Responsible for resident lab calendar.
  • Interact with families and visitors, assisting when applicable.
  • Perform a monthly audit on each chart to determine what has not been completed.
  • Enter monthly weight into the computer by the designated time.
  • Keep current with State and Federal regulations pertinent to Medical Records.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures.
  • Assuming a resident care group, transporting resident to appointments, providing ADL care as indicated.
  • Ensure safety of residents by observing and interacting with when needed.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned that are within the Nursing department’s mission and as situations warrant in meeting the overall needs of the facility.
  • May be assigned to any unit as staffing needs change with short notice.
  • May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
