About The Position

MercyOne Clinton Medical Center is seeking a Unit Secretary/CNA to join their healthcare team. This role involves providing quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care by assisting patients with activities of daily living and other physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. The Unit Secretary also performs clerical and receptionist duties, including transcribing physician orders, scheduling diagnostic tests, maintaining patient records, handling phone calls, and providing routine information. The position requires demonstrating professional behavior, assisting with delegated nursing activities under the supervision of an RN, and coordinating patient care activities. The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills and knowledge of medical terminology.

Requirements

  • Certified Nurse Aide, verification of certification from the State of Iowa
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to work concurrently on a variant of tasks in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.
  • Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change.
  • Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.
  • Excellent communication skills are required to communicate with various disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the patient with activities of daily living, as well as, other physical, emotional and spiritual needs consistent with the mission of MercyOne Clinton, vision of patient care services, evidence-based standard of care and established policies and procedures.
  • Performing clerical and receptionist duties under the direction and supervision of the Unit Director.
  • Transcribing selected physician orders, performing order entry on the computer, scheduling diagnostic tests and therapies for patients.
  • Assembling admission and discharge charts and maintaining patient medical records.
  • Completing documentation for billing.
  • Answering telephone calls, providing routine approved information via telephone and in person and relaying other calls and messages to appropriate staff.
  • Demonstrating professional behavior consistent with the mission of MercyOne Clinton, the Vision of Patient Care Services, evidence-based standards of care and established policies and procedures.
  • Under the supervision of an RN, assisting with the provision of patient care and other delegated nursing activities.
  • Utilizing observation, interpersonal and communication skills to identify changes in patient status that should be reported to the RN.
  • Coordinating the scheduling of various tests.
  • Arranging transportation for patients.
  • Preparing, compiling, maintaining and processing the patient records.
  • Ordering and maintaining inventory of forms and supplies used for the unit.
  • Assisting with the documentation of such parameters as vital signs and intake and output utilizing the appropriate medical record.
  • Demonstrating a caring practice by respecting the rights of an individual or group.
  • Demonstrating skills as an effective team member.
