About The Position

Manages a unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the unit. Represents the unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff. Create original cataloging and metadata in OCLC, Alma/Primo, and digital repositories. Copy catalogs, edits metadata, imports metadata, and curates metadata in the libraries' Alma/Primo Discovery system. Maintains library collection holdings. Monitors and manages all CZ Alma/Primo updates and all library personnel maintaining bibliographic record updates. Answers library reference questions, assists library patrons, and performs literature searches. Teaches courses (both credit and non-credit), conducts orientations, provides on-demand instructional sessions, designs instructional modules, and teaches seminars for faculty, residents, community members, and students. Advises and provides feedback related to departmental goals, policies, and procedures. Remains current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position. Personally, and consistently, demonstrate, display and act in accordance with Texas Tech Health El Paso’s Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Serve as a Value's leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution. Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.). Requirements

  • 13 years of experience working in an academic health sciences library or a Master's degree in Library/Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution and at least one year of experience working full-time in a health sciences library environment, and three years of experience working in an academic library's bibliographic management department.
  • Work in a school or public library should never be considered to be equivalent to work in an academic health science library, because the other library environments are not 95% digital libraries.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Demonstrable experience using a major ILS/LMS, including experience teaching the system to others.
  • Demonstrable teaching skills.
  • Primo VE Administration Certification or ability to attain certification.

Nice To Haves

  • AHIP certification preferred, but not required.
