About The Position

This role requires the ability to effectively direct the daily functions of unit nurses and CNAs, providing leadership on the floor. The position involves coordinating resident care plans and services with RNs, charting appropriately, accurately, and in a timely manner, and providing and coordinating resident care. A key responsibility is accurately preparing and administering medications as ordered by a physician, and responding to emergency situations related to resident and staff safety in a leader capacity. The role also demands dependable and regular attendance, concentration, reasoning skills, good judgment, and the ability to communicate and function within an interdisciplinary team.

Ability to administer prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, and note times and amounts on residents’ charts.
Ability to observe residents, charting and reporting changes in residents’ conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action.
Ability to provide basic resident care and treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, giving enemas or douches, rubbing with alcohol, massaging, or performing catheterizations.
Ability to sterilize equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave.
Ability to answer residents’ calls and determine how to assist them.
Ability to measure and record residents’ vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration.
Ability to work as part of a health care team to assess resident needs, plan and modify care and implement interventions.
Ability to collect samples such as blood, urine and sputum from residents, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
Ability to prepare residents for examinations, tests or treatments and explain procedures.
Ability to assemble and use equipment such as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen suppliers.
Ability to evaluate nursing intervention outcomes, conferring with other health care team members as necessary.
