The Unit Manager is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and oversight of all aspects of his/her assigned clinical unit. This role involves ensuring staffing levels are met, leading resident care meetings, monitoring the provision of care by licensed nurses and CNAs, reviewing resident medical records, identifying staff educational needs, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, including HIPAA. The Unit Manager also manages work assignments, initiates disciplinary action when necessary, communicates with department managers, ensures physician orders are followed, assists with performance evaluations, and oversees the admission process and documentation. Additionally, this role involves monitoring medication passes and treatment schedules, providing direct nursing care as needed, reporting problem areas to the Director of Nursing, participating in continuing education, ensuring staff compliance with policies and procedures, and participating in fire safety, disaster preparedness, and infection control procedures. The Unit Manager also collaborates on resident care plans, ensures resident privacy, reports and assists with investigations of resident abuse allegations, and assists with Advance Directive/Code Status documentation and annual survey processes.
