About The Position

Directs and manages the overall daily operations of the designated Clubhouse, with primary concern for programs and service delivery, supervision and training of staff, facilities management, community relations, and membership administration. The Unit Director establishes Unit programs, activities, and services that prepare youth for success and create a club environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes. They ensure a healthy and safe environment, maintaining facilities, equipment, and supplies. The role involves strategic planning for programs, services, and activities to meet objectives and member needs, compiling regular reports, and managing financial resources by assisting in budget development and controlling expenditures. Resource management also includes ensuring administrative and operational systems are in place for property and equipment maintenance, and recruiting, managing, and providing career development for staff and volunteers. Partnership development involves building relationships with parents, community leaders, and organizations. Membership recruitment and retention are key, as is marketing and public relations to increase program visibility. The Unit Director maintains close contact with Club professional staff, Unit Boards, and members, and external community groups, schools, and parents to resolve issues and publicize the Club. Unit Directors are responsible for ensuring their clubs are viewed as a HUB of the community and must be visible at community events, neighborhood meetings, and advisory council meetings.

Requirements

  • Experience working with youth and understanding of youth development
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university required
  • A minimum of five years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Negative TB test
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Background check clearance
  • NCLB certification required
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of young people
  • Knowledge of facilities management
  • Knowledge of budget preparation, control and management
  • Motivational: Able to inspire club staff and members to reach a goal and/or perform to the best of their ability

Responsibilities

  • Establish Unit programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and that create a club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.
  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate Unit overall programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests.
  • Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation.
  • Manage Unit financial resources, assisting in the development of annual budgets.
  • Control expenditures against budget.
  • Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment of the Club, including use of facilities by outside groups.
  • Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for unit staff and volunteers.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings.
  • Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations.
  • Recruit and retain appropriate amount of youth into program according to the overall vision and expectations of the club.
  • Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community.
  • Maintain close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information.
  • Maintain regular contact with Unit Boards to advise and counsel as needed.
  • Maintain regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.
  • Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.
  • Ensure their clubs are viewed as a HUB of the community and must be visible at community events, neighborhood meetings, advisory council meetings, etc.
  • Purchase supplies and equipment.
  • Work with staff on special events to carry out clubhouse programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by Area Director
