About The Position

The Future Ready Lab Unit Director serves as the leader of the Future Ready Lab and is responsible for the overall quality, safety, effectiveness, and operational success of the site. This role is accountable for site culture, staff performance, member experience, program quality, facility management, partnerships, workforce readiness experiences, and youth outcomes. Success is measured not only by what the Unit Director personally accomplishes, but by their ability to develop staff, build systems, maintain high operational standards, and ensure consistent execution across the site. Working closely with the Regional General Manager, families, community partners, and industry representatives, the Unit Director develops and executes site strategy, monitors performance through data, and ensures alignment with organizational priorities. The Unit Director serves as the primary decision-maker on site and is responsible for maintaining a safe, engaging, innovation-focused environment that prepares youth for future success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; Associate's Degree and relevant experience considered.
  • Minimum two years of experience working with youth.
  • Experience leading educational, STEM, workforce development, makerspace, innovation, or project-based learning programs preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Office 365 and organizational data systems.
  • Passion for youth development, innovation, and future workforce preparation.
  • Must report suspected child abuse in accordance with California law.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred or facilitated upon hire.
  • Valid TB clearance in accordance with organizational requirements.

  • Obtain and maintain Mandated Reporter training and complete annual Child Abuse Prevention training.
  • Be trained and understand school district Emergency Response procedures and ensure the consistent execution of Emergency Preparedness protocols across all school sites, including drills and communication practices.
  • Oversee delivery of high-quality programming aligned with the Future Ready Framework and Club Impact Model.
  • Ensure youth participate in engaging, hands-on, project-based learning experiences that promote workforce readiness and future success.
  • Monitor attendance, participation, retention, and engagement to ensure youth are actively connected to the program.
  • Monitor program quality through observation, coaching, and performance data.
  • Maintain a safe, engaging, and well-organized learning environment.
  • Utilize quality assessments and youth feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support implementation of organizational initiatives, curriculum, and learning pathways.
  • Ensure consistent execution across all program areas.
  • Oversee delivery of Future Ready Lab experiences aligned with workforce readiness, STEM, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, design thinking, engineering, and career exploration.
  • Integrate technology, innovation, and real-world applications into daily programming.
  • Create opportunities for youth to explore career pathways and develop future-ready skills.
  • Support implementation of industry-relevant curricula, certifications, and project-based learning experiences.
  • Coordinate showcases, exhibitions, demonstrations, and presentations that celebrate youth achievement.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, experimentation, and problem-solving.
  • Ensure learning experiences remain relevant to evolving workforce trends and opportunities.
  • Promote development of communication, collaboration, leadership, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Support youth in identifying interests, strengths, and future career aspirations.
  • Facilitate opportunities for leadership, teamwork, mentorship, and project ownership.

  • Utilize observation data to inform coaching conversations, professional development plans, and performance evaluations.

  • Build relationships with local businesses, industry professionals, colleges, universities, and workforce development organizations.
  • Coordinate guest speakers, mentorship opportunities, career exploration experiences, and industry engagement activities.
  • Develop opportunities for youth exposure to careers, industries, and post-secondary pathways.
  • Support volunteer recruitment, engagement, and recognition efforts.
  • Represent the Future Ready Lab during partnership meetings and community presentations.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate programs based on youth interests, workforce trends, and organizational priorities.
  • Utilize attendance, participation, quality, and outcome data to drive decision-making.
  • Monitor progress toward site goals and organizational priorities.
  • Prepare and submit required reports accurately and on time.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all assigned reports, deadlines, and operational requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, staffing, payroll, inventory, and operational records.
  • Manage budgets, supplies, equipment, technology assets, and learning resources responsibly.
  • Ensure staff follow organizational systems, procedures, and standard operating practices.
  • Follow through on commitments and ensure staff do the same.

  • Monitor utilization and effectiveness of Future Ready Lab resources and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming facility.
  • Ensure all learning environments, makerspaces, technology labs, classrooms, and common spaces consistently reflect organizational standards.
  • Manage supplies, inventory, technology assets, equipment, furniture, and site resources.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and proactively address maintenance concerns.
  • Ensure technology, tools, and equipment are properly maintained, inventoried, and secured.
  • Oversee staff schedules, timekeeping, and operational systems.
  • Support emergency preparedness and facility safety procedures.
  • Maintain environments that are visually engaging, youth-centered, and conducive to learning.
  • Responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the Future Ready Lab transportation program, coordinating daily transportation for students traveling from partner middle schools.
  • Managing transportation schedules and student rosters, ensuring accurate documentation and communication with families, school personnel, and transportation providers, proactively resolving transportation issues, maintaining compliance with all organizational and safety requirements, and ensuring students transition safely and reliably between school and the Future Ready Lab while fostering strong partnerships with participating schools.
