About The Position

Stamford Hospital is seeking a Unit Coordinator to join our Maternity team! Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and Charge Nurse, the Unit Coordinator provides administrative support on the Maternity unit. They serve as the central contact for communication with but not limited to the surgical team. Primary responsibilities include filtering telephone calls and managing distribution of paperwork and test results. This is a locked unit, which requires the UC to screen all visitor entry/exit. Available Hours: Full-time Evening (3pm - 11pm) shift, 5 days per week. CAs are required to work alternating weekends/holidays to ensure consistent and safe unit coverage.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  • Basic English skills (reading, writing, and verbal)

Responsibilities

  • Monitors visitor entry/exit to the unit.
  • Greets individuals, provides directions & information, and responds to needs and requests.
  • Escorts and orients patients to their rooms.
  • Ensures care environment is ready for patient.
  • Prepares, compiles, and maintains the patient's medical record on the nursing unit, including transcription of physician's orders and processing of ordered tests and procedures, from admission through discharge, using current I.S.
  • Manages the unit's communication and tracking systems (phone, vocera, patient call bells, fax, tele tracking, etc.) to facilitate communication between members of the healthcare team and their clients.
  • Responds to the patient call system, contacts nursing personnel as appropriate and follows through with meeting patient needs.
  • Contacts and communicates important pre-operative information (e.g., arrival time and way-finding) to patients.
  • Escalates clinical questions to a registered nurse.
  • Assists with the management and coordination of send-out labs, including Newborn Screening Labs.
  • Participates in performance and support improvement and risk management activities.
  • Orders and maintains hospital supplies and documentation for patient care and office use.
