About The Position

The unit coordinator is an active member of the health care team, who demonstrates strong clerical duties, the ability to prioritize, courtesy with communications in person and on the phone, and who demonstrates professional accountability. This role involves overseeing front desk operations for the Labor & Delivery unit, ensuring accurate patient registration, admission, and discharge documentation, and maintaining patient charts in electronic health record (EHR) systems. The coordinator also facilitates communication between medical staff and ancillary departments, prepares birth certificates, and stays updated on changes in computer software mandated by relevant authorities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Unit coordinator or administrative assistance experience in a medical setting preferred.
  • Prior experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record and Microsoft office suite preferred
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Public Notary preferred, required within 6 weeks of hire

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage front desk operations for the Labor & Delivery unit.
  • Ensure accurate patient registration, admission, and discharge documentation.
  • Maintain and update patient charts in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Coordinate communication between physicians, nurses, and ancillary departments.
  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills by prioritizing and completing assignments within the shift.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize by providing prompt and accurate follow through.
  • Promptly answer the telephone identifying self and the department.
  • Present department and self in a positive manner to patients, visitors and other employees.
  • Meet professional accountability regarding individual professional growth and development, customer relations, confidentiality, participation in hospital/unit-based committees.
  • Follow hospital policies.
  • Participate in Quality processes both organizational and unit based.
  • Prepare birth certificates from initiation to completion and route them to the city clerk within 10 days.
  • Continually update changes in the computer software as mandated by the Boston Registry and Vital Statistics and the Department of Public Health.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
