About The Position

This position involves performing administrative and clerical duties to support an assigned clinical area, specifically the Telemetry Unit at UAB St. Vincent's East. The role includes greeting patients and visitors, managing communications via phone and mail, assembling and maintaining patient charts, and assisting with physician/clinician software for order entry, transfers, and discharges. The Unit Assistant will also coordinate meetings, maintain meeting minutes, and manage timekeeping and staff schedules in computer systems. The Telemetry Unit (6North) is an 18-bed unit specializing in the care of patients requiring telemetry monitoring, focusing on detecting medical or cardiovascular issues and preventing emergent situations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
  • BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative and clerical duties in support of an assigned clinical area.
  • Greet patients and visitors, answer/screen/route telephone calls, file, distribute mail and perform other general clerical duties.
  • Communicate with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol.
  • Schedule patients for individual appointments in a timely manner.
  • Provide assistance with programs/software for Physicians/Clinicians through the order entry processes, transfers and discharges.
  • Assemble and maintain patient charts.
  • Coordinate meetings/schedule meetings/rooms with the appropriate person, send notices as requested.
  • Maintain meeting minutes.
  • Enter and maintain timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems.
