About The Position

Fairview Range is looking for a dedicated Unit Assistant (UA) to join our Acute Care unit in our med surgery department in Hibbing, MN. The Unit Assistant (UA) functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse to deliver direct and indirect quality patient-centered care. The UA performs encouraging nursing care appropriate to the age of patients served, including physical hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, socialization, observation, safety, and emotional and physical comfort needs. The UA also maintains a safe and clean working environment, answers call lights, telephones, and relays messages to appropriate personnel. This position is a casual position that will work 16-32 hours per two weeks. The shift length will be 8-hour rotating day, evening, and night shifts with weekends undesignated. This unit treats medical, surgical, and pediatric patients. Remodeled in 2015, our unit includes 28 single patient rooms and an adjacent 4-bed ICU. As an integral part of our care team, the UA completes patient-centered care by meeting both the psychological and physical needs of the patients and ensures efficient care and service in accordance with providers orders, The Joint Commission, nursing, and departmental guidelines.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Current BLS certification or attends BLS class within 3 months of employment and maintains certification.
  • Current BCS or acquires within three months of employment and maintains certification.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of recent work experience as a nursing assistant.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduation from a nursing aide program
  • CNA
  • Knowledge of computers and word processing

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in implementation of the plan of care under the direction of an RN. This will include, but not limited to, activities of daily living such as dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, bathing, and oral cares, eating and drinking.
  • Answering telephone; relaying messages promptly and thoroughly.
  • Recording acquired patient data in EHR.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
  • Answers call lights.
  • Relays messages to appropriate personnel.
