Unit Assistant - Same Day Surgery

About The Position

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the Unit Assistant supports nursing staff and assists with patient/resident care according to the patient care plan and hospital policies and procedures. The role also provides routine clerical support to the unit. The position is in Same Day Surgery, with night shifts, varying daily work times, and 48 scheduled hours per biweekly pay period.

Requirements

High school graduation or equivalent.
Successful completion of a health unit coordinator course, or high school or college coursework in medical terminology and computer/data entry.
For candidates who do not meet the minimum six-month nursing assistant experience requirement, specialized education must include one of the following: an acute care nursing assistant course for acute care positions; a long-term care nursing assistant course; an emergency medical technician program; a medical assistant program; or a clinical rotation while participating in an accredited nursing program.
At least six months of prior nursing assistant experience if the specialized education requirements have not been met.
BLS certification as a Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).

Nice To Haves

Six months of clerical experience in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

Provide routine patient/resident care, including responding to call lights; assisting with ambulating, transferring, and positioning; helping with personal hygiene; and assisting with prescribed bowel and bladder programs.
Collect, record, and report patient/resident data, and report changes in patient/resident condition.
Provide general clerical support to the unit, including answering phones, data entry, and assembling, maintaining, and distributing information.
