About The Position

The Unit Assistant I performs administrative and clerical duties in support of the 7 North Cardiology Stepdown Unit at UAB St. Vincents East. The role supports patient care operations by assisting patients, visitors, clinicians, and other healthcare team members, and by maintaining unit records, schedules, and communications. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. UAB St. Vincent’s is part of UAB Medicine and serves Alabama through five hospitals and numerous clinics. Requirements

High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
Required professional licensure or certification may be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

Nice To Haves

BLS Provider certification is preferred; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Responsibilities

Perform administrative and clerical duties in support of the assigned clinical area.
Greet patients and visitors; answer, screen, and route telephone calls; file and distribute mail; and perform other general clerical duties.
Communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol.
Schedule patients for individual appointments in a timely manner.
Assist physicians and clinicians with programs and software during order entry, transfers, and discharges.
Assemble and maintain patient charts.
Coordinate and schedule meetings and rooms with the appropriate person, and send notices as requested.
Maintain meeting minutes.
Enter and maintain timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems.
