The Operating Engineer will have a strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment on all systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) and be multi-skilled in others in order to successfully complete daily/weekly work assignments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3–5 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or engineering
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex building system issues efficiently.
  • Accurate documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
  • Capability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Effective verbal and written skills for coordinating with tenants, contractors, and management
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices, OSHA regulations, and emergency response procedure
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • associate’s or technical degree in building systems, engineering, or related field preferred
  • experience with building automation systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, HVAC, and other building systems to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of building equipment and systems
  • Respond promptly to service requests, emergencies, and system malfunctions to minimize downtime and disruption
  • Monitor and adjust building automation systems, including temperature, lighting, and energy management controls
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and service providers for repairs, installations, and inspections
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, records of repairs, and compliance documentation
  • Ensure all building systems comply with safety codes, regulatory requirements, and environmental standards
  • Assist with renovation, construction, or retrofit projects as needed
  • Monitor building security systems, elevators, fire alarms, and other safety equipment
  • Support sustainability initiatives, energy conservation, and cost-saving measures across building operations
