About The Position

The Union Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately processing payroll for union employees in compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), federal/state regulations, and company policies. This role ensures proper calculation of wages, union dues, fringe benefits, and reporting requirements, particularly in industries such as construction or skilled trades.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred)
  • 5+ years of payroll experience, preferably with at least 2 years of union payroll experience
  • Strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements and prevailing wage laws
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Viewpoint, Sage, or similar)
  • Knowledge of certified payroll reporting and multi-state payroll processing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll software
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple payrolls and deadlines
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive data

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction, energy, or manufacturing industries
  • Familiarity with union audits and compliance reporting
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation (a plus)

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll for union employees across multiple job sites and classifications
  • Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) to payroll calculations
  • Calculate wages, overtime, shift differentials, and job-specific pay rates
  • Deduct and remit union dues, working assessments, and other withholdings
  • Track and process fringe benefit contributions (health, pension, annuity, etc.)
  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports (e.g., Davis-Bacon or prevailing wage reports) as necessary
  • Maintain accurate employee records, including classifications and union status
  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve employee pay issues
  • Coordinate with HR, accounting, and project managers to ensure payroll accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and union agreements
  • Assist with audits, including union and government audits
