The Union Paymaster is responsible for processing union payrolls on time, accurately, and compliantly, within stated SLA timelines. This role requires the ability to synthesize complex collective bargaining agreements and apply them correctly to payroll calculations and edge cases, while maintaining a high bar for documentation and cross-functional communication.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a multi-union payroll environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply union rules and working conditions in a production payroll context.
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working under pressure and deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication across multiple channels.
  • Basic spreadsheet skills (Excel/Sheets) and comfort learning new systems quickly.
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate workload and client needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive knowledge of entertainment union contracts preferred (SAG-AFTRA, DGA, IATSE, Teamsters, etc.).
  • Experience operating in a scaling operations environment with evolving tools and processes preferred.
  • History of improving documentation standards and operational workflows preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process union payrolls accurately and compliantly within stated processing timelines/SLAs.
  • Synthesize and correctly apply information from complex collective bargaining agreements, side letters, and simple mathematical rules when processing payroll.
  • Ensure correct interpretation of union agreements and other provisions; escalate to appropriate partners when formal interpretation is required.
  • Manually review and validate calculations; identify discrepancies and make corrections/overrides as needed.
  • Multitask across multiple payrolls and deadlines; proactively manage workload and priorities.
  • Maintain clear, well-documented notes in systems so others can understand the status of a payroll and the rationale for decisions.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal partners (e.g., Labor Relations, Customer Success, Payroll Ops/Tax Ops, Product/Engineering) to resolve issues quickly and reduce repeat work.
  • Contribute to SOPs, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement efforts.
