About The Position

JLL is seeking an experienced Mechanic Level 4 to join their Central Utility Plant team. This senior-level role involves operating and maintaining mission-critical utility systems for major corporate facilities. The position requires advanced technical expertise and leadership, overseeing complex equipment such as chillers, boilers, compressed air systems, and fire safety equipment. The role is crucial for JLL's facility management services, ensuring operational excellence and system reliability. It offers the chance to work with advanced utility plant equipment, mentor junior staff, and contribute to continuous improvement in an industrial setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with minimum 10 years of hands-on utility plant experience or equivalent advanced technical training
  • In-depth knowledge of centrifugal chillers, water tube boilers, fire tube boilers, steam generation equipment, centrifugal pumps, and screw air compressors
  • Proficiency with field instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement systems
  • Ability to read and interpret complex layout drawings, system schematics, and manufacturer equipment specifications
  • Strong knowledge of valve operations and mechanical equipment maintenance procedures
  • Basic computer skills and general CMMS experience
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities with capability to present technical information effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of utility plant experience with high-pressure boilers, steam systems, air compressors, or refrigeration equipment
  • Two years of trade school education combined with three years of practical utility plant experience
  • Experience with DX cooling systems and data center backup cooling equipment
  • Knowledge of PLC systems and alarm response procedures
  • Previous mentoring or training experience with junior technicians
  • Familiarity with JLL safety requirements and training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and monitor advanced utility systems including chillers/chilled water, boiler/steam distribution, compressed air, and fire/life safety systems
  • Conduct comprehensive troubleshooting and diagnostics on complex utility plant equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime
  • Perform regular system inspections and provide detailed technical reports to the Central Utility Plant Engineering Manager with upgrade recommendations
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance work orders while maintaining accurate records of all maintenance activities and repairs
  • Interpret complex schematics and technical drawings to support system operations and equipment modifications
  • Respond to plant emergencies including fire, flooding, leaks, and power outages while coordinating with on-site and off-site emergency contacts
  • Mentor and assess junior operators on utility plant systems while supporting training and development initiatives
  • Support annual plant shutdown operations and perform specialized maintenance on ice machine equipment across multiple cafeterias.
