About The Position

Under general supervision, this role involves measuring, cutting, and shaping various materials to construct and install building frameworks, including walls, floors, doorframes, concrete, signs, scaffolding, and drywall. The position also includes inspecting and replacing damaged framework or other structures and fixtures. The Union Carpenter will install forms, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using diverse materials, and fit/install window frames, doors, door hardware, and trim. Responsibilities extend to studying blueprints, preparing project layouts, shaping materials, and adhering to safety regulations. The role also involves building/repairing cabinets and fixtures, constructing stair work, preparing subfloors, and applying finished flooring. Additionally, the carpenter will assemble frameworks, remove/repair damaged sections, inspect structures for damage, and work with walls and partitions, ceilings, and component parts. Material handling, worksite cleanup, working at heights, operating forklifts, equipment maintenance, and promoting safety are also key aspects. The role requires using a work order system, ordering/picking up materials, and performing miscellaneous job-related duties. The ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision, supporting lean initiatives, is essential.

Requirements

  • A.A.S. two-year degree or equivalent in applicable field of study plus 2 yrs experience OR Military advanced training in applicable field plus 2 yrs experience OR High school degree/GED Journeyman credentials in applicable field.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the time of joining.

Responsibilities

  • Install forms, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using materials such as wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites.
  • Fit and install window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim using a carpenter’s level, plumb bob, and laser levels.
  • Fit, sand, install doors and windows including trim and hardware.
  • Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
  • Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
  • Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools.
  • Construct and set stair work.
  • Prepare sub floor and apply finished flooring.
  • Assemble and fasten materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using tools.
  • Inspect ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures.
  • Lay out, cut, assemble, erect, and apply materials and component parts for walls and partitions.
  • Lay out, cut, assemble, and install materials and component parts for ceilings: hangers, channels, furring and backing boards.
  • Move necessary materials around jobsite as assigned.
  • Clean up worksite debris.
  • Work at heights in scissor lifts and boom lifts.
  • Operate fork trucks for material movement and unloading of deliveries.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Order/pickup materials and parts for job execution.
  • Use current work order system to process and complete job assignments.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimal supervision while supporting lean initiatives and maintaining a team-oriented approach.
