About The Position

This is a temporary project need with an anticipated duration of 2-3 months. The Union Carpenter Journeyman will be responsible for completing rough carpentry work, site logistical work, fencing, deck and platform building, protection systems, construction waste areas, and jobsite cleanup. This role involves shaping or cutting materials to specified measurements, erecting scaffolding and ladders, and installing structures and fixtures including windows, frames, flooring, trim, and hardware. The position requires reviewing jobsite needs with superintendents and foremen, coordinating construction, and estimating, inventorying, monitoring, and requesting time, staff, materials, and equipment. The carpenter will operate equipment such as forklifts, backhoe, skid steer, excavator, compactor, and construction hoist. A key aspect of the role is assisting with overall site safety and quality programs, ensuring compliance with Turner standards and safety codes. This includes daily participation in Pre-Task Plans and inspecting tools and power tools before use. The position also involves maintaining positive working relationships, accommodating night and weekend work, working independently with minimal supervision, and displaying teamwork, integrity, commitment, and leadership. Other activities and responsibilities may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid union card.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of carpentry experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of construction surveying.
  • Able to understand and interpret project drawings.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction carpentry.
  • Knowledge of foundations and framing of buildings or other structures.
  • Basic arithmetic, basic geometry, and their applications to carpentry.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including uses, repair, and maintenance associated with carpentry and woodworking.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to accommodate night and weekend work as needed.
  • Comprehend safety instructions and signage.
  • Clear communication skills, especially in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect all tools and power tools before use to ensure they are in safe and working condition.
  • Comply with written safety instructions from tool and equipment manufacturers.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers and other employees.
  • Ability to travel and accommodate night and weekend work as needed.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Display a high level of teamwork, integrity, commitment, and leadership in daily operations.
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
