ABA Insurance Services Inc., a division of Great American, has been a market-leading provider of professional liability, bond and P&C coverage for financial institutions for over 35 years, as well as EPLI and cyber for small businesses and D&O for nonprofit organizations. ABA Insurance Services is currently seeking an Underwriting Trainee. The position is based out of the Shaker Heights, OH office. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and analyze insurance submissions to identify exposures, assess risk, and support underwriting decisions.
  • Prepare quotes, renewals, endorsements, and other underwriting transactions while maintaining quality and service standards.
  • Collaborate with agents, brokers, and internal partners to gather information and provide underwriting guidance.
  • Develop expertise in underwriting guidelines, coverage forms, pricing methodology, and risk selection.
  • Utilize data, technology, and underwriting tools to support decision-making and portfolio management.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with underwriting, regulatory, and company requirements.
  • Support profitable growth through strong customer relationships and responsive service.
  • Participate in training, continuous improvement initiatives, and special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
